This
section is still awaiting development. We are hoping to develop
a page with additional information to help others understand the
trans condition, how to support a transperson, and how to cope with
their own emotional turmoil and questions. In the meantime, "True
Selves: Understanding Transsexualism--For Families, Friends, Coworkers,
and Helping Professionals" is an invaluable reference for
those struggling to understand.
For employers and co-workers, we do have a resource page for transgender people in the workplace.
In Edmonton, there is a support group called Reflections that can be of face-to-face support and assistance to significant others, and for all friends / family / partners / acquaintances, there is an online support mailing list operated by a parent in Calgary (contact me to forward your email address) -- there are also Pflag groups in Edmonton and Calgary.

Online
Reading (for Significant Others, Friends, Family, Aquaintances):
Transfamily.org
and Pflag --
probably the best links for parents, family and friends of transpeople.
Pflag is primarily gay/lesbian, and Transfamily is very underdeveloped.
However, they are probably the best resouces available for SOFFAs
(Significant Others, Families, Friends and Acquaintances) at this
time.
Children of Lesbians and
Gays Everywhere (COLAGE) -- also provides support for
children of Transfolk
Straight Spouse Network
-- also provides support for spouses of transpeople.

If
you are aware of resources for Alberta transfolk (or good
online resources) that are not listed currently, please
inform me, so that I can also make these available. Please
contact me if you have anything
you can contribute. |
